127 Beachside Avenue, Westport CT

Be prepared.  I will not be able to fawn over this house enough.  Seriously.  This will be one of the greatest gems I will ever send you.  It’s a gem for so many reasons, where do I begin...

As I have mentioned in other gem emails, I am an absolute sucker for the beach and water views.  This house has both.  It is a few yards away from Southport Beach.  It is a very short bike ride to Burying Hill Beach.  It has views of Sasco Creek from the back of the house and views of the Sound (albeit seasonal) from the front of the house.  Does it get any better than that??

The house itself is almost 2,400 sq ft and has four bedrooms and two and a half baths.  All the rooms are very generously sized. The living room is the entire width of the house.  There is an eat-in kitchen next to a sweet little library, as well as a full dining room.  The bedrooms are ridiculously roomy and the bathrooms are spacious as well.  The upstairs rooms all have lovely water views. There is an old, gracious elegance to this house that makes you think, “They don’t make them like this anymore.” Make no mistake about it, this house needs a lot of cosmetic work, but its “good bones” are readily apparent.

Sitting on a well-landscaped half acre, the backyard has a deck that is accessed through the kitchen and sits next to an in-ground pool.  If it were mine (and don’t think I didn’t lobby my husband hard on this one…I actually made him go over to look at it TWICE) I would put French doors along the entire back of the house and just let the view of Sasco Creek fill my days.  Ahhh...absolutely breathtaking.

This house is listed for $1,389,000.  I honestly believe that the price of the house combined with the money needed for cosmetic improvements will be much less than the ultimate value of the updated house.  Please don't let the pictures dissuade you...this house is more than worth the time to see it in person.

Besides, wouldn’t it be cool to have Marlo and Phil, Harvey and Georgina, and Imus as your neighbors?  Talk about a great block party!

Why is this the Gem of the Week?

As the old adage goes, "Always buy the least expensive house on the best street."
