Home      164 South Compo
164 South Compo Rd, Westport CT

A couple of weeks ago, my manager came back to the office after being out on a brokers' tour and specifically came to find me and tell me about today's gem.  She was so sure I was going to love this house she wanted to be sure I knew about it and boy was she right! This house embodies everything I love...an antique house, with a modern interior and all a quick bike-ride away from Compo Beach.

Built in 1880, this house is a lovely antique.  I LOVE one-of-a-kind, antique houses.  Now, after having owned an antique for over 10 years, I speak from authority when I say antiques can be great in theory, but in reality they can be a lot of work and money.  You can spend a lot of time just trying to maintain them, let alone improving them. BUT, if someone takes the time, effort and spends the large amount of money needed to gut and update it, then you truly can have the best of both worlds.  That is what the owner did here.

This house maintains many of the wonderful touches that make an antique special.  Over-sized windows to let the sun in, a large fireplace in the center of the living room and solid hardwood floors throughout. Yet, the house has been improved with new windows, an open floor plan, a new high-end kitchen and completely renovated bathrooms.

At 3,100 sq ft, this house is large for an antique and sits on almost half an acre. It has four generous-sized bedrooms, including a first floor bedroom and bath for guests, as well as a gorgeous master suite upstairs.  The house has three and a half baths all newly renovated with beautiful tile and modern appointments.

Not only do I love this house, I love its location.  It sits gently back off South Compo Rd and is a mere 5 minutes to the train and 5 minutes to the beach...convenient and fun!  This house is fantastic for either full time Westporters or denizens of NYC looking for a weekend escape.  It is a lot of house for $1,125,000.

Why is this the Gem of the Week?

An exquisite blend of old and new in a superb location.
